In the times of old, beings of great power walked the earth. Immortals were they, unaffected by disease or old age, possessing powers that surpassed those of any of the humans who came after. They first revealed themselves in all their splendor to the people of Greece, who revered and worshiped them for the wonders they spun. The people called them gods and goddesses, divinities. Sweet was their adulation to the then-childish immortals, and pleasing was their worship. Thus the Greeks became their people amongst all those of the earth and for many years the gods had power and dominion over the land that they had chosen for their own. The greatest of them all resided on Mount Olympus, which became the throne of divinity from which they ruled. And so, centuries passed.
But this age was not to last. Mighty Zeus sought to make for his own a portion of the power of each for the purpose of "strengthening" Olympus. His body, immortal and though it was, was overfilled with the magic and his essence was overwhelmed. Titanic was the explosion that came when Zeus could take no more of what he had brought upon himself, yet it was a thing unperceived to mortals. It echoed on a plane beyond their reach, as Zeus' essence scattered far and wide, never to re-gather in reincarnation. With it scattered the power he absorbed and the impenetrable protection that had surrounded Olympus and the lands surrounding, leaving it vulnerable and weak. The land over which the deities ruled was invaded by those who knew them not. For ages confusion and mistrust ruled, but many immortal had become languid in their security before their weakening and so the people of Greece fell from their fantasy into blind faith. They were turned away from the gods by the foreigners, and made to instead worship beings who did not exist--mere inventions of mortal minds. No longer were the gods of Greece revered, no longer were their temples filled with worshipers, no longer did their altars burn with the sweet smells of sacrifice. Their tales were erased or made to be foolish stories, their followers scattered. The very names that once struck fear and awe into mortal hearts now existed only for the amusement of children and the few who took interest in them. Entities of power became mere myth, and so ended the age of the gods.
Zeus, however, would never return. None knew this but Hera and a select few in whom she placed her confidence, for Zeus power had been paramount in the Olympians control over the other immortals and, indeed, in the King and Queens ability to maintain peace. Clear-minded despite her anguish, Hera focused a portion of her power and the small amount of power she had been able to snatch up at Zeus obliteration to form an illusion, a reincarnation of Zeus that fooled all but those privy to the secret for centuries. The Queen of the Gods was able to mimic his mannerisms, his demeanor, his essence. Everything.
In present times, the deities still walk the earth, but no longer as supreme rulers of the land. They live their lives as humans. Some allow themselves to be born time and again, appearing as different people of different races, spreading all over the world. Others use illusions to blend into society and move around to hide their immortality, but all are well-experienced at whatever method they choose to disguise the truth of their being. Of course, there are those who still long for their power of old. There are those who mercilessly use their inhuman power and years of accumulated knowledge to put themselves ahead, and in some cases on top of the societies in which they reside. They seek to gain prestige and wealth they lost with the altar, and therefore a life more suitable and comfortable to them. They've been many people over the years; the almost-famous songwriter who mysteriously died at a young age, and whose physical remain was hidden to the public eye. The CEO whose face is never seen, but whose monopoly runs rampant until one day it is taken over. The astonishment fades, as well as the common product's mastermind, no questions are ever really asked. Perhaps they were the inspiration of an old bedtime story, one that has kept children in their beds at night for the last few centuries.
Inventions, strategies of war and torture, nameless leaders of the group mentality--most of these worldwide phenomena have been guided by these faded powers. Yet, they all are still very much a family. Beings of the same nature, when outcast, are still the only sources of support and true understanding, so it is natural that they remain in contact. They still look upon the Olympians as their elders, and the King and Queen are still their highest authority. Some produce offspring, and these unique children grow to become the demi-gods of lore, those with special abilities that are often underestimated and shrugged off as nonsense. Yet, though unaware of their half-divine parentage, these superior mortals have embraced the abilities bestowed by their blood and become athletic stars, saviors to those in need, and geniuses whose capacities befuddle any who try to understand them.
Though all of this and much through trial and error, it has been agreed upon amongst the gods and goddesses that they should take no ruling position in this new life. Not only would such a position threaten the careful control and limiting of the King and Queen - in modern times, it would risk speculation of them and discovery by humanity. To be subject to the analysis of the humans, if only as mythological creatures to be captured with technology then tortured with it in the name of discovery, is a fate that would affect the entire world's population. History itself would become a lie, and the foundation of humanity would crack with mass chaos on its heels. For any who break this rule there are others to interfere, who mask the situation with assassinations, social movements, down to riots and the trials of political figures. God has been pinned against god, religions have clashed, and faiths crusaded for, and only recently, rumors are whispered for the try of another battle of domination.
Perhaps they've endured the life they were not meant for too long, and now the lesser Gods want to exert themselves over the humans that once worshiped them, for no other reason than personal revenge. Perhaps they yearn for proof that they have lost neither their luster nor their natural right to rule. Perhaps even the mighty ones of Olympus have come to tire of their never-ending lives of concealment. The rulers and strongest of these are not at the head of the rumors, however. Mighty Hera wishes for the current way of life to go on, keeping both themselves and the humans flourishing together, but separately. Therefore, it is often the Queen who keeps times as they are, as she rallies her fellows to intervene when one of their own becomes out of control. It has become her worry and burden to keep the balance of life for our today, and our tomorrow to come.

The Classes
The Leaders
From the very beginning have they ruled, the eternal cornerstone of the immortals communal existence. Eldest and most powerful of all, to this pair falls the role of keeping their kind in check. They carefully limit their interference and allow the others the freedom to live as they will, but only so long as their doings do not threaten others of their kind. Their words are law, their networks of knowledge vast. It takes but a word from the former King and Queen of Olympus to bring to arms the ancients of Greece.
Here in the top two classes reside the founders. Theirs is the final say on room issues and character acceptance, and any problems that should arise. Dont piss them off their patience, unlike their characters, is not eternal.
The Olympians
They are the watchers of their kind. Being the group second in power, they once resided upon the mighty mountain which was the ultimate altar of the immortals. Amongst them are the right and left hands of the leaders, their most trusted friends and advisors, those who tend to issues when their leaders have not the time. However, also amongst them are a few who covet superiority for their own ends, who are dissatisfied with the furtive lives they now lead
Within this group, which is made up of the ten privclasses immediately below those of the two leaders, lie those members who have the skills to play the more powerful of the immortals. Some of these will be administrators / moderators, who will take care of things when the founders are not present or too busy. Be polite, be respectful. Or you'll be shown out.
The Lesser Gods
Here are the immortals who once lived spread throughout all of Greece. They are the former river gods, the nymphs, the fully-divine children of the Olympian gods, and all the other deities of lore. Lesser in power they may be, but they hold the greatest numbers of their kind.
Here reside one group of members, who are held in equal status to the Divine Offspring. The only difference in these two groups lies in their characters.
Divine Offspring
Have you ever wondered, about those rare people who seem to do everything right, whose abilities seem inhuman? Its as if the gifts they come into the world with arent natural, as if theyve got something more and they do. It is not a mistake, not luck that they are as they are. It is their parentage, for they are part-immortal. They are the offspring of the once-great gods, the mortal children who have not inherited their parents longevity, but who have received some sort of powers. These range from only just noticeably heightened physical abilities, to, in those who bear Olympian parentage, abilities nearing those of a Lesser God. Though the Divine Offspring are not entirely immortal they are not to be underestimated, for they can move about most freely of all in the world.
Here reside the other group of members, who are held in equal status to the Lesser Gods. The only difference in these two groups lies in their characters.
Guests of Olympus
Potential power and greatness here lies, possible alliances to be forged. These who have not yet joined the ranks - what will their roles be?
The privclass for users who are in the process of creating characters and those who join the room for reasons other than rp.
The Mortals
Oh but how oblivious they are, to the superior beings who move in their midst. By some of the deities they are despised, others view them simply as ignorant children. The fate of their kind is often guided by a subtle immortal hand, but never have they known of this influence.
These are the guests in the room, those who have yet to create characters or are awaiting character approval.
Quelled
Bereft of their tongues, they shall not speak until the Olympians allow it, for such is the lesser price of offending the gods.
Quite simply, those who have been silenced for one reason or another. Silencing is for the most part temporary.
Tartarus
As high as heaven is above the earth, so is Tartarus far below Hades. Dank and wretched, here is the pit to which the greatest offenders are condemned, a place of eternal agony and punishment.
The banned.
